I hate all men but…
Right now, this is a trend on TikTok. Talking about how women hate all men, but “when he loves me” I’m okay with him.
Well, yeah sure, but there is a reason this exists.
It’s because men in positions of power abuse their roles.
It’s because men (especially white men) take advantage of women in vulnerable positions in order to succeed.
I’ve been in the tech world for 10 years. It’s been ten long years of dealing with issues in communication, unrealistic expectations, re-writing history, sexual innuendos, abuse, and bullshit.
It’s because men won’t turn on their video camera to lay you off.
It’s because men feel like they can ask if you want children.
It’s not broken down to the individual. It’s not accusatory to one person. It’s prolific. It’s across the board. It’s whatever business catch-phrase you like, it’s whatever words you want to use, but every single woman in tech has a story.
It’s men thinking they know better because they read an article, listened to a podcast, or just thought something different.
It’s men being conditioned that we should agree and say yes and anything to the contrary is defensive.
Ask women about their experience at a conference in Vegas with alcohol, ask women about how their male boss approaches them, ask women if they get the same opportunities that their male counterparts get.
It’s a story about how the tech industry is a mess.
And I’m going to tell you all about it.
It’s time for the tech industry to change.
It’s time for us to not accept the bullshit anymore.
It’s been written before, but nothing has changed. So we keep writing it. And we keep writing it, and we keep writing it.
